Parent Resources

Welcome to the First UU parent community. Here are some great ways to connect with fellow parents at the church. We look forward to meeting you!

Yahoo group: UU-Parents: This online group is one of the best ways to stay connected with Austin UU parents and learn about upcoming events. To sign up, simply go to http://yahoogroups.com/group/uu-parents. Request membership online and you will receive a confirmation email that gives you access to the group. Note that this group is for all congregations in Austin, so when announcing events for FUUCA members only, please mention this in your post.

Childcare: On Sundays childcare is provided for toddlers in the nursery from 9:30am-12:45pm. Full childcare (including older kids) is also available for certain church events, including the Wednesday Meet-n-Greet meals at 5:30. See event announcements to find out which events have childcare.

Children’s Religious Education: We have engaging educational programs at both of our Sunday morning services with classes tailored for preschool through 5th grade. On the first Sunday of the month the children meet together for Chapel in Room 15. Registration forms are available in the RE office or from your child’s teacher or care-provider. After registration you will receive occasional emails from us with announcements and other information for FUUCA families. Please contact Lara Douglas for details about our programs ().

Playground monitoring: Between services, parents can let their children play on the playground. This playtime is supervised by volunteers; contact Lara Douglas ()  for more information if you would like to help.

Potluck Playdays: These fun afternoons are hosted by a different family each month. It is an opportunity for the kids to run and play while the parents eat, drink and socialize. Hosting is easy! Sign up as a host one month, then just pick the time and place (your home, a playground, a park, etc.) We all bring a dish and the kids do the rest.

Babysitting Co-op: This group of parents trades babysitting time among members of the co-op. Total hours are monitored by the coordinator, contact Chris Heidel for details if you would like to start trading ().

Mommy Meals: When a UU family is expecting a baby, this group coordinates the delivery of homemade meals for one evening each week after the birth. To volunteer to make a meal, or to sign up to receive meals, contact Ame Gadsby ().

General church information: Make sure to pickup a newsletter each month at the church or have it emailed to you. You can sign up for electronic delivery of the newsletter at the church website and the weekly list. Both the newsletter and the website contain important news, updates, and an event calendar.
