Women’s Spirituality
The Women?s Spirituality Group meets on the first and third Saturdays of each month from 10:30am-12:00pm in room 13. Information about our current events and topics can be found on our bulletin board outside the church office. Following are our Philosophy and Purpose and our Agreements for Creating Sacred Space. For more information, contact Linda Webster at 458-1852 or at . New women are always welcome at our regular meetings.
Philosophy and Purpose
We are a circle of wonderful women committed to coming together for discussion and ritual centering on women?s spirituality. As a feminist group, we strive to be egalitarian, non-hierarchical, and accepting of diversity. As a spiritual group, we value regular attendance, believing that our spiritual bonds are thus strengthened. As a Unitarian Universalist group, we are noncredal and welcome women of diverse spiritual perspectives.
-
We connect with each other as we explore our inner power.
-
We listen to each other as we tell our personal stories.
-
We define and create our values.
-
Through our rituals, we create a sacred space in which we honor ourselves as women.
-
We read, study, and discuss works by women writers to connect with women throughout time and to learn from their wisdom.
Agreements for Creating Sacred Space
These agreements help us create a safe, respectful, and sacred space for our circle:
-
We observe confidentiality for personal information discussed during the group.
-
We speak from our own personal experience, using ?I? language. Each woman?s experience is valid. We support each other in speaking our own truth.
-
We respect each woman?s right to speak and to be heard. We honor our differences and our individual opinions. We listen to each other without interrupting, confronting, or giving advice.
-
We each have the right to pass without explanation and without pressure to speak or participate. We each will choose our depth of sharing based on how comfortable we feel.
-
We will start on time and end on time.
-
We share responsibility for group roles and tasks on a voluntary basis.
-
We use opening and closing rituals to create sacred space in which we focus on women?s spirituality.
-
Although we acknowledge and support each other in the challenges of our lives, we are not a therapy or counseling group.
-
We are open to new members at all regular meetings.
-
We are open to women who have reached menarche. We ask that women not bring infants or children into the group. Child care is provided by prior request.
-
We agree to notify another group member if we cannot attend so that we can be brought into the circle.
-
We strive to make decisions by consensus so that individual concerns can be honored and options discussed. We will provide notice of meetings in which major decisions will be made. We respect consensus decisions made when we are not present.
